Silver Cup, 2012

Delirious Weapon

The video work Silver Cup by Dmitri Sarkisov was made in 2012 during his service in the Air Force of Armenia. It was shot on a personal mobile phone with a 2-megapixel camera. The low-resolution image reveals coarse pixels, which produces a specific visual effect. The fact that filming was prohibited gives the work a political tone.

The weapon appears within a hallucinatory optics: it moves like a living organism, taking on a distorted face. In this state, the instrument designed for destruction begins to appear absurd and pathetic. The work reveals a simple but non-obvious condition: weapons are delirious.
